Adoptable Greyhounds
Kindred
Spirits adoptable greyhounds are fostered prior to re-homing.
The first two weeks of the adoption process spent in your home
are considered a trial period. If for any reason during
these 2 weeks, you or Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption feel
that the adoption is not a good match, the dog may be returned
and your adoption fee will be returned to you. Our
adoption fee is $250.00 which includes spay/neuter, Heartworm
Test, Dental, DHLPP, Bordetella and 1 year Rabies vaccines,
worming and a freshly bathed greyhound!!
The first step in our
adoption process is to do your research. Read the
information on our website, visit our links, and learn all that
you can about retired racers. After you have educated
yourself a little bit, then please print out one of our
applications and send it to us.
Application
After we receive it, review it, and call your references, we
will get in touch with you to set up a date for a home visit.
At the time of the home visit we may (or may not depending on
the availability of the foster family) bring along the dog that
we feel will best fit your family.

Jimmy
-
Adopted
Jimmy is from Wheeling WV and has been
waiting for months in a track adoption
kennel because nobody at the track PR’s
the dogs and they just sit there waiting
for someone to show up, pick one out and
take it home. Judi K– who overnights
our dogs in PA – fell in love with him
and pushed for a group to take him. Kim
P stepped up to foster so I told her
we’d take him. He has been vetted in PA
and is living at Judi’s. He is a small
fawn male with a roman nose who gets
along with other dogs and cats.

Justin - Adoption
Pending
Justin is a
gorgeous hunk of happy, black dog! He'll
be 3 years old in December and weighs
about 70 pounds. Justin has been retired
for 5 months and has been just hanging
out at the race kennel because he does
not like cats... at all... or squirrels,
or bunnies... well, unless they're for
lunch! Justin doesn't really know his
name, so you could probably call him
whatever you like. Or, let's put it this
way, he doesn't come when you call him,
so maybe there needs to be food
involved! He definitely loves his chow.
Oh, and he is completely OBSESSED with
toys! Any kind of toys...he wants them
all. So, if you have kids, and they
leave their toys lying around, all bets
are off! Justin walks very nicely on a
leash and he is super friendly... not
afraid of anything. He does get along
great with other medium to large dogs,
but he has the confidence to be an only
dog. He's going to make a super nice pet
for a family with kids.

Style/Stanley
Style is a
very small red male, 64 pounds and just
3 years old this month. He can be a bit
shy at first (like for a DAY), until, he
gets to know you and then is as friendly
as anyone! He tested cat friendly,
didn't care at all about the cat. And,
he gets along very well with other dogs,
always taking the back seat. He is
sweet, mellow and very low key. Style
walks great on a leash and will do his
business on lead, too. He'd probably be
happiest in a home with another dog to
follow around. Style will make an easy
addition to just about any family.

Tiki
-- Adopted!
Tiki is the
cutest little girl ever! She is aptly
named, as she has more ticking than any
greyhound we've ever seen! Tiki will be
4 years old in October and weighs an
even 60 pounds. She has the sweetest
personality and LOVES people. She is cat
safe and gets along just great with dogs
of all sizes. She's not an alpha girl,
but not submissive, either... she's JUST
RIGHT! Tiki is living with a bunch of
cats and 2 other greyhounds in her
Orlando, FL foster home. What a doll!!!

Nicky
-- Adopted!
You would think this cute black girl's
call name would be Shirley, but, no, it
is Nicky! Nicky weighs 62 pounds and is
just a few months over 2 years old. But,
she is calm and mellow, quiet and maybe
just a touch bashful upon meeting new
people. She does not have the normal
frantic energy of a 2 year old. She is a
sweet, sensitive little thing and was
one of her trainer's favorites. Nicky
enjoys hanging out in her crate, but she
is not reclusive by any means. She knows
her name and will come out when you call
her, has no problem going outside to do
her business and coming in when called.
She gets along great with a pack of dogs
and doesn't mind little dogs, either.
It's just cats she has a keen interest
in. And, we don't think she would
actually harm them, just being curious.
So, we are going to say she is most
likely cat trainable. She has a lovely,
serene demeanor and walks nicely on a
leash.

Dasota -
Adopted
Dasota is a sweet little girl who just
arrived from Alabama. She is young
(just over 2) and suffered a broken leg
while racing. The leg has healed
crookedly which adds to her charm, but
she still favors it a bit so it
obviously has more healing to do. She
is happy and affectionate and an update
on her condition and her small animal
safety will be available in a week or
so.

Flower
-Adopted
Flower is a tiny little female greyhound
with a big personality. She is cute and
spunky and curious and very smart. She
would make a great dog for an active
person who also likes to just cuddle up
on the couch at the end of the day and
watch a movie and eat popcorn with their
dog. Flower would do best in a home
with a fenced in yard where she can get
her zoomies out at least once a day.
She should go to a home without kids or
cats but she gets along well with other
dogs. Squeaky toys really make her day
as would a forever home with someone who
can give her the love and attention she
deserves.

Karl
- Adoption Pending
Karl is a very retired racer. He
actually stopped in his last race
and let the rest of the pack blow by
before trotting on down to the
finish line. He is a beautiful boy
who is gentle with cats and kids
alike. Karl has no interest in
chasing ANYTHING. He does great
with other dogs of all sizes and
rides well in the car. Karl turned
2 in March.
Karl has really come out of his shell
since landing in his foster home and has
now discovered the he LOVES to run!
Good dog Karl! He is living with
several other greyhounds and has a great
time playing in the fenced in yard with
them. He is a bit shy with people but
warms up quickly and does well with the
kitties in his foster home. He would
probably flourish in a home with a
fenced in yard and maybe another dog as
they tend to help him overcome his bit
of shyness

Champs
Champs came to us after being dumped at a
shelter in NY City. He is just now
coming out of his shell and is going to
be a wonderful pet for someone. Champ
needs to go to an experienced home with
people who will give him time to learn
to trust them. He needs a home with no
children but does well with other dogs.
Once he settles in he is affectionate
and easygoing. He would make a great
second greyhound for someone out there.
Anyone looking to chip?
From
Champs' Foster Mom:
Champs
is a special boy. Once he trusts
you, he becomes a happy dog and
comes out of his shell. He loves,
loves his walks, and after he's done
with a 2-miler, he wants to go for
another. He just learned to bark, so
you know when he wants something. He
has a fabulously long white-tipped
tail that either swings back and
forth, or whirls around when he's
excited. He also lives to eat. He
typically doesn't get up on
furniture, but on the rare occasions
he does, he does so backwards with
his feet against the pillows and his
back facing the room. He spends a
lot of time on his slumber ball, and
he does well in the crate, esp. when
he knows he's going to get a kong
with frozen peanut butter and
kibble. He's an early riser and
knows his schedule (and doesn't let
you stray from it), so he'd do well
with someone who's active (such as a
runner) and has a routine. He is
high prey and spends a lot of time
in the backyard being teased by the
neighbor's cat on the other side of
the fence. He hasn't been around any
other dogs but the ones in my house,
and if they get in his space, they
know it.
Champs
still gets stressed out under
certain conditions and will need to
go to a home with good structure and
routine – preferably with someone
who has owned greyhounds or who has
experience with special needs dogs
who can build a trusting lasting
relationship with him.

Melvin/Marvin -
Adoption Pending
Marvin is a very outgoing guy who is recovering from a broken leg suffered
while racing. He is a big boy
who is full of exuberance and
love who is just waiting for the
right family to come along. He
needs to take it easy on the leg
for a few more months but will
then be one of those retired
greyhounds who loves to do a few
laps around a fenced in year.
He loves stuffed toys and has
been known to hoard piles of
them in his crate. Marvin is an
easy guy to love.
